Empowering the Next Generation: A Message from Napa County District Attorney Allison Haley
As the District Attorney for Napa County and a long-standing advocate of If Given A Chance (IGAC), I have witnessed firsthand the transformative impact that this organization has on young lives.
For over 15 years, I’ve been involved with IGAC, drawn to its mission of identifying and supporting high school students who face immense challenges. Growing up, I experienced hardship due to my father’s incarceration and the struggles that followed—homelessness, poverty and instability.
I was one of those kids who needed extra support to move through the educational system; I see how mentoring plays a critical role in a young person’s life.
IGAC not only helps students navigate these difficult years but also instills in them a sense of purpose and responsibility. What I love most about IGAC is that it communicates to our students that they are the future and hope of the next generation. With our partnership with Students Rising Above, our organization’s support extends well beyond high school, providing the guidance and resources needed for students to graduate college and start fulfilling careers. Students who benefit from IGAC often return to help the next generation, creating a cycle of support that strengthens Napa County’s community.
Over the past 30 years, IGAC has empowered more than 400 young people in Napa County, helping them to continue their education and give back to their communities. I have proudly served as the president of IGAC’s board and, while I’m taking a sabbatical this year due to my commitments to the California District Attorneys Association, I plan to continue working with IGAC in the future. Supporting IGAC means investing in Napa County’s future. By giving these young adults the chance to overcome adversity and pursue their dreams, IGAC not only helps individual students succeed but also strengthens the entire community. I encourage everyone to support IGAC by making a donation, helping ensure that more students receive the support they need to graduate and thrive.
