The
First Chance Fund (“FC
Fund”) exists to extend the
Mission of “If Given a Chance….” to
younger individuals, who are not
yet of age to qualify for Awards.
The Fund’s primary purpose
is to act as a catalyst for intervention
and prevention.
Criteria for Distribution of FC Fund
Assets.
To remain within the mission
of the “If
Given a Chance….” Foundation
the FC Fund will adopt criteria that
ensure the distributions are for
purposes that:
Will result in candidates
participating in activities and/or
programs that present them learning
or developmental experiences or
opportunities.
Are based upon or will lead
to personal accomplishment by the
candidate.
Represent a sustained/ programmatic
means of assisting youth rather
than “one-time” contributions
that have no potential for follow-up.
Specific criteria include the following:
The
candidate is at least 6 years of
age and has not yet graduated from
high school or received an equivalent
diploma.
The candidate is a young
person who, based upon circumstances
known or believed with good authority
to exist at the time, is likely
to require episodic financial assistance
over the course of their youth
The
candidate or referring agency demonstrates
that a real and validated financial
need exists so that the FC Fund
represents a resource of last resort
to fund their participation in
programs and activities that will
result in the candidate’s
sustained accomplishment, learning
and personal development.
The funds
are to be used for programs and
activities that represent, in the
opinion of the Committee, those
that will have substantial impact
on the learning and pro-social
development of young people.
